A normal workday in our house goes along these lines… Alarm rings or children wake me up screaming… my one year old baby girl loudly demands milk, my four year old boy wants to go potty, watch tv and of course he wants his milk too! I hurry to the kitchen, put milk in the microwave, get it ready as fast as possible to pacify my crying baby, thankful that somebody invented the microwave. Once I have my children settled I hurry to take a shower and get ready for work and I drink just a glass of juice before leaving the house, already late!
At work I’m on my feet the whole day, sometimes without enough time to eat properly. So again, I microwave whatever left over was in my fridge or just eat a lunch meat and cheese sandwich and go on with my day… When I get back home children are hungry and I come up with some quick dinner and we start all over again the next day!
Somewhere in this blur that my life seems to be, one of my friends is diagnosed with breast cancer. A client gets diagnosed with breast cancer, she is in her early thirties, like me. My friends sister gets diagnosed with breast cancer. My boss loses a friend to breast cancer. A high school classmate dies of ovarian cancer. A friend gets diagnosed with skin cancer. A little boy in our community bravely fights brain cancer. And so on…
It just really hits me! I had this picture in my mind that it could eventually happen, but when I was much older than now! This is a realization that it could happen to me, my children or anyone at anytime and that I really need to think about prevention, and is it possible to use food and supplements to be proactive in the prevention of cancer?
So I start researching risk factors for cancer… A change in lifestyle is imperative! But it is so hard to do!!! We live in a hurry, buy food that looks nice and at the same time contains a bunch of chemicals, use soaps and lotions full of chemicals, clean our house with harmful disinfectants, use the microwave every chance we have…
